American artist Fran Forman’s artistic process is more like a painter’s than a photographer’s. When she embarks on her fantastical projects, she never knows how they will end up. In her new book, The Rest Between Two Notes, Forman chases this sense of perpetual discovery to explore “in-betweens”: the liminal spaces “between coming and going, between darkness and light, between history and the present, between connections and not connections.”

LENOX — JP Terlizzi’s photographs of food and dishes are still lifes flipped on their head. Unlike their Dutch and Flemish models that approach a carefully arranged everyday scene from eye level, Terlizzi’s look straight down, turning the dismantled pomegranates and peeled lemons into new arrangements of colors and shapes.

An exhibit of photographs that have been made without cameras sounds like a gimmick, but “Light + Dark,” the current show at Sohn Fine Art Gallery in Lenox proves that in the hands of skilled artists it results in wonderful and unexpected work. The exhibition is small, featuring just two artists—the American photographer, Chuck Kelton and the English artist, Garry Fabian Miller—but there is much not only to consider but to reconsider here. This is a show that is radiant and gimmick-free.

If Cassandra Sohn has anything to say about it, it will soon be known as the hub of visual arts in the Berkshires. Sohn, a photographer and the owner of Sohn Fine Art in heart of Lenox, as well as the chair of the Art Lenox initiative launching this fall, has a multipronged plan to boost her town’s reputation as a premier location for visual artists, art lovers, and art education.
